The Tanimbar Island Python...
Years ago, we went into a pet store and they had the most glorious python in one of their tanks. It was a brilliant living gold. And waaaaay out of our price range at the time. Later on, all I could remember was that it came from somewhere in Indonesia and was some sort of "Island Python". For some reason, I thought of it this afternoon and went searching. This is it...the Tanimbar Island Python. It is a cousin to the Amethystine Python, a dwarf by comparison (only reaching 1.5-2 meters in length, fairly slender-bodied, vs. the latter's 5+ meters), occupies the same niche as the Green Tree Python, and possessed of a much milder temperament than the infamously aggressive Amethystine. Still very expensive, I'm sure, and almost all specimens are wild-caught, a definite downer. But still beautiful, and also available in darker color morphs like those below. In all of them, the iridescence is splendid! Maybe someday...
