Some Interesting Facts...

...I picked up today on the History and Animal Planet channels:
  • Saltwater crocodiles are proof against most viruses and bacteria. In fact, the micro-organisms usually perish if they make it into the croc's system. There is interest in medical research circles for developing treatments against diseases from crocodile blood.
  • There are underwater volcanoes near the Marianas Trench (the deepest place on Earth) that spew mud instead of magma. The mud is made from ground-up serpentine.
  • There are places within South America's Atacama Desert that haven't received a sizable rainfall in about 23 million years.
